ART BEYOND: What is Plein Air?

Art Beyond is an outdoor art exhibition created by Schneider Museum of Art. It is a series of art events, sculptures and installations taking place in and around Ashland, OR May 15 – July 18, 2021.

Project Space’s own Sarah Burns is curating and participating in What is Plein Air?

Friday, June 11th through Sunday, June 13th from 1pm to 3pm
Site: Mt. Ashland

The French term plein air means “out of doors” and refers to the practice of painting an entire finished work outdoors. Join seven established plein air artists up on Mt Ashland. The general public is invited to engage with the artists and observe their work from 1pm to 3pm.

This is a free event for the whole family! Come out, enjoy nature, engage with the artists and see their process.

Mt. Ashland is a community-focused ski area operated by a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing an outstanding alpine recreation experience for people of all ages and skill levels. During Art Beyond installations will be placed on a mile long nature trail. Visitors can enjoy wild flowers and beautiful views of the valley from the trail. The nature trail begins at the uphill end of the large wooden fence just above the lodge on the Sonnet Ski Trail. Map of Nature Trail

Getting to the Mt. Ashland Ski Area is easy. The Ski Area, located at 11 Mt. Ashland Ski Road, is just minutes from Exit 6 on I-5. Please note that there is over 2,000 vertical feet to climb on the road from the I-5 exit to the ski area parking lot.

Following this event, participating artists will show their work at the Schneider Museum of Art July – September 2021.
